Ministries - The Order of the Daughters of the King
|
| The Order of the Daughters of the King is an international religious order for women and girls who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the historic Episcopate. Today our membership includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Roman Catholic and Lutheran (ELCA) churches. Its purpose is to bring others into a living, loving relationship with Jesus our Savior and to help strengthen the spiritual life of the church. |
A Daughter makes four promises that, with God's help, she will keep for the rest of her life:
- To obey the Rule of Life of the Order – Rule of Prayer, Service and Evangelism
- To offer at all times loyal aid to her priest and parish
- To wear habitually the Cross of the Order
- To work for the Order's purpose as God gives the opportunity
|
| Meetings of the Messiah Chapter of the Daughters of the King are held on the third Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the parish hall. Business is discussed and a study of some religious material follows. |
| Before a woman or girl is admitted as a Daughter, she has to complete a 12-Question study prepared by the National Office. This study enables her to decide whether she really wants to be a Daughter. |
| The Diocesan Board of the Central Florida Daughters of the King holds quarterly meetings at which local chapters are informed of the activities in Central Florida and throughout the Order. An annual Women's Spring Retreat is held at Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center in Oviedo over a week-end. Any woman of the church is welcome to attend. An Assembly for all Daughters in Central Florida is held on the second Saturday in September each year. Highlight of the Daughters' activities is the one-week Annual Fall Assembly at Kanuga, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. |

| Daughters sponsor Quiet Days, preferably in Lent and Advent, to which church members are always welcome. Daughters are not allowed to sponsor or conduct fund raising projects though they voluntarily contribute to the three funds of the Order – the Self-Denial Fund to assist missionaries at home and abroad, the Master's Fund to assist Daughters or women to attend training for work in ministry and the Endowment Fund which is a permanent trust fund. |

The Order of the Daughters of the King is a "safe place" in a busy world – a place to take off one's mask and be together in Christ's love. We invite you to visit one of our meetings.
