Ministries - Children's Ministry
|
| Because of our Mission to "Change the world with Jesus: one child at a time...", ministry to children is our top priority at Church of the Messiah. As a result, God has blessed us with a growing number of children (and their families!). Our Children’s Ministry includes the following components: |
- "Children of the Messiah Preschool"
- Sunday School
- Children’s Church
- Vacation Bible School
- Seasonal Plays
- Summer Camp
- Service as Acolytes (Crucifers, Candle Lighters, Table Servers)
|
| We offer child care with loving professional nursery workers for every worship service and all meetings that include parents who need child care. Our nursery staff serves our children and their parents by offering a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment. |
| First a word about our curriculum: We are using the Anglican edition of curriculum from David C. Cook entitled Bible-in-Life. It purpose is to teach a Biblical Anglicanism with a "Great Commission" emphasis. The Anglican Edition of Bible-in-Life Sunday school curriculum is designed to help the next generations gain a comprehensive understanding of Scripture in the Anglican Tradition complete with a commitment to the Great Commission. Children's Sunday School meets at 9:30 AM and is comprised of nursery care for children under the age of four and two age or grade related classes. Parents can place their children in a class and either go to a class themselves or to the 9:30 Worship Service. |

For children ages 5 - 11 during both the 9:30 and 11:00 services. Children stay with their families for the opening songs and prayers, leave for the scripture readings, sermon, and prayers of the people, and then return in time for the Peace. At the 9:30 service the children join the age-appropriate Sunday School Class for the Bible story and activity, and are then escorted back into the worship service to join their parents. At the 11:00 service the Children's Church volunteers utilize a curriculum from David C. Cook called Noah's Park. The kids love the "adventure trails" that lead to a better understanding of Jesus. The Bible stories and puppets, music and prayer, crafts, and games all give kids an understanding of God's love! Noah's Park correlates with the Bible-in-Life curriculum reinforcing what kids learn in Sunday school! So, even if a family is there for Sunday School at 9:30 and Worship at 11:00, their children will have two completely different, yet complimentary experiences.

| A highlight in our congregation’s life is when our children help make our special church seasons come alive through their participation in a play depicting the importance of that season. We are gifted at Messiah with very talented children and youth who have learned the value of hard work and the reward of offering their talents to God through music, acting, costumes, and their presence. |

| God is an "equal opportunity employer," and our children help lead worship by serving at the altar with the clergy as Acolytes. They lead the processions, help set the table for communion, and assist in several other details of the liturgy. To be an acolyte, a child must: |
- Be at least 6 years old
- Want to be an acolyte
- Attend a Training Session
- Promise to be still and quiet for the length of the service
|
|
Acolytes are trained and scheduled as part of the regular rotation for the service their family attends.
